As a physician assistant, Kara Starkman, P.A.-C helps provide effective and timely medical care. Under physician supervision she takes medical histories, examines patients, orders and interprets laboratory tests and imaging studies such as X-rays and MRIs, as well as diagnosing patients. She also prescribes medication, treats minor injuries, and assists in orthopedic surgeries.
Kara began a career as an orthopedic physician assistant because it allowed her to utilize her proficiency towards helping individuals return to function and activity. As a physician assistant her areas of concentration and specialization are the treatment of hip and knee conditions. She is trained in assisting with operative and nonoperative procedures of the hip and knee, including adult reconstruction, injections, and joint aspiration. Additionally her clinical duties include pre- and postoperative care.
Her medical philosophy is centered on striving to develop an interactive relationship with each patient. She believes in working together to restore patient’s health and get them back to doing what they love most. Being able to make a difference in her patient’s lives is truly a gratifying experience for Kara.
In addition to her clinical commitments, she has co-authored several publications and presentations about join replacements. When not seeing patients, she stays active through fitness training, hiking and cycling. Kara also enjoys golfing and boating.
